Generative AI Won’t Take Your Job, But Here’s Who Will
You’re going to have to use generative AI one way or the other. Avoiding it is like avoiding the internet 30 years ago. Here’s how you can take advantage of it to make yourself more efficient and get your team on board as well.
By Joseph Burns, Founder and CEO of Lupa
If you’re worried that generative AI will take away all our jobs, think again. Some jobs might indeed disappear with new technology, but there’s a good side too. AI can help us work better and focus more on what we’re best at. For instance, a study from MIT Sloan found that using generative AI for the right tasks can improve our performance by up to 40%.
Right now, many people are learning about generative AI, and they could get ahead if you don’t start learning too. Here’s why you need these tools for your work and why it’s smart to hire people who also know how to use them.
How AI Can Upgrade Your Work
Let me tell you about my experience first.
I’m a CEO with many clients, multiple teams, lots of meetings, endless ideas to develop, and plenty to learn—as fast as I can.
When ChatGPT launched, I was eager to try it. At first, I used it for basic research. Soon, this tool learned everything about me, my company, my employees, and my challenges at work. Over time, it provided more precise answers and became my new assistant, helping me organize, create presentations, brainstorm ideas, and many more things I discovered along the way.

Check out my list of 8 ways you can use generative AI for your daily tasks, whether you’re an executive or a marketer.
1. Boost your creativity: Even if your job is super logical and mechanical, we all need to come up with ideas sometimes. Maybe you’re working on a big project and don’t know where to begin, or you need a new plan to get more people to read your blog. Generative AI is a great tool for brainstorming and making the creative process smoother. It helps you come up with tons of ideas you might never have thought of. Sure, maybe half of the ideas it produces are garbage, but the other half might be pretty decent for a start.
2. Get feedback: When I create a presentation, write a text, or build any kind of project, I always give my AI assistant a first draft to make sure everything looks good—from the clarity of the text to the communication tone and style. This way, ChatGPT can shorten the long and boring parts, use precise words, and make everything seem much more professional and high-quality.
3. Organize your life: Some say that for every minute spent organizing, an hour is earned. Now think about the amount of time you can save by asking a generative AI tool to do this for you. It can prioritize tasks, manage your calendar, organize your documents and data, and take care of those time-consuming duties that don’t require much thinking.
4. Analyze market trends: The only way to beat the competition is by staying ahead of the latest trends in the market. As the CEO of a recruiting agency, AI has helped me understand our clients’ struggles in their hiring process, discover the best hiring practices in the industry, and see what the top players are doing that we aren’t.
5. Take notes: Most of us don’t have the time or patience to take notes during every meeting. But you wouldn’t believe how useful this can be in the long run. AI can transcribe your meetings in real-time or afterward, summarize the most important points, and even come up with action items and follow-ups for each session.
6. Solve problems: Why bother anyone with your personal or work issues if you have ChatGPT? Whenever I don’t know how to tackle or solve a problem, this is my first resource. What’s even more impressive is how well my AI tool knows me, using information from every single interaction to give even more precise and helpful solutions.
7. Work faster and be more productive: This might be the most obvious advantage, but really, the average person can now produce a lot more than before and be way more efficient in their jobs, driving better results for the overall business.
8. Learn and research: Generative AI is probably the best tool for learning nowadays—maybe after the internet itself or YouTube. With a deep analysis of tons of data and extracting the best insights from multiple sources, AI can help you learn what once took a week in just a few minutes. Sometimes I ask my AI to explain something to me as if I were a fifth grader or a university student. This gives me different perspectives and ways of explaining things to myself and others.
How to Get Employees to Embrace AI
Think about the best performer on your team. Have they tried using generative AI tools to help with their daily work? If not, they have even more potential to unlock. Here’s how I encourage my top players to embrace AI as a way to excel:
Show them examples
Seeing is believing. I use this principle to persuade my employees about the power of generative AI. I know the most time-consuming tasks my workers face every day. So, I show them how to do an hour-long task in just eight minutes using AI. At first, many don’t believe it, but the proof is right there.
Promote knowledge sharing
Knowledge is power, but shared knowledge is power multiplied. I always show my discoveries about AI tools and applications to my employees on our communication channels and encourage them to do the same. I love seeing people comment on a new technique they’ve learned or share something that can be useful for another team.
Putting It All Together
I leave you with this last thought: Generative AI won’t come to life and steal your job. Machines are not designed for that; they are meant to help us with repetitive and mechanical tasks we used to waste time on—until now. Remember: Humans—the smarter ones—are right now sitting at their desks learning all about AI and will be the first to replace you in the future if you don’t catch up.
As you may have noticed, I am a big fan of generative AI. What interests me even more is using AI to help U.S. companies connect with the highest-quality talent from Latin America—and don’t worry, we’ll make sure this person loves AI too.
