A Long Journey
Our story
Lupa’s origins trace back to five years ago, when our Founder and CEO, Joseph Burns traveled to LatAm to become Head of Product in Rappi. When he arrived, building the search engine wasn’t his only objective; he was given the mission to build his own team. At the time, the organization was relying on staffing companies and third-party agencies. Joseph knew that if he could build his in-house team he would be able to save a lot of money, but most importantly, hire the best people.
At first, mapping talent in an entire continent seemed a challenging task. But with a solid background in engineering and data analysis, Joseph was soon crafting a strong database with valuable information on the best tech companies in the region, the stacks they operate on, and the amount they pay, to finally get to the best pool of talent in LatAm, discovering a great amount of underestimated professionals who dreamed of better opportunities.
Before he knew it, Joseph was building rockstar teams—having almost 1,000 people under his organization—and began to see a new business opportunity. As his hiring success grew, he soon began to receive requests from entrepreneurs outside Rappi who saw great potential in his approach.
Powered by a genuine passion for building top teams and the angel investments of a few clients and bigger investors, Lupa was born. Our initial team was formed by Joseph, a data scientist and a recruiter, who began a journey to build the most technologically advanced—yet distinctly human—remote recruiting agency on the planet.

“I’m originally from the States, where becoming a professional basketball player was one of my greatest ambitions. This dream led me to travel the world in search of a team willing to pay me to play. Along the way, I developed a passion for learning new languages and experiencing diverse cultures. This journey eventually brought me to Latin America, a region I immediately fell in love with.
My career has been full of twists and turns, moving through various top companies: starting as an economist by trade, I moved from engineering to product management, and ultimately to entrepreneurship, where I founded my own recruiting company: Lupa.
My passion for continuous improvement has guided me throughout the years, fueled by my deep interest in the Latin American ecosystem. It has been nearly a decade since I began my life and career here, during which I have built a vibrant community of global talent. My primary goal is to internationalize LatAm talent and foster a rich exchange of cultures in the workplace”.
